Happy Gardens in Orange

Three buddies and I went on a weekend camping trip to get away from the hustle and bustle of Washington, DC. Surprisingly, on a Saturday night in Orange, VA not much was open so we wandered over to Happy Gardens. Given the fact that this is a random Chinese restaurant in the middle of nowhere Virginia, we did not have great expectations. The atmosphere was classic cheesy, but the man (Jimmy) who owns it is so nice (hence the two stars v. one star). Between the four of us, we ordered four dishes and it was more than enough for four grown men. It was not the best Chinese food, but still edible.

Didn't get the chance to taste the food because the customer service is beyond terrible! I call to place an order and all the prices he listed were about 2 dollars more per item than in their menu. After they gave me a total, I rechecked the menu and repriced everything... There was an 8 solar difference between the two items I had ordered. So I called back told the guy my findings and he said that it was because the menu had not been updated in 3 years! So I cancelled my order. And the guy went off. He was extremely rude. Needless to say I will not be giving them any of my money.

Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great flavored lo mein. Fair prices. I just stopped while waiting in by bus for students to finish a wrestling trip and decided to try it. If I find myself up here again I'll be sure to stop in!

First time to this place. Don't let the interior and exterior looks fool you. What the ambiance lacks it's quickly overshadowed by the food. The food is delicious! I had the sechuan beef. Some of the best I've ever had! This place is a hidden gem of Orange county.

Lunch buffet lukewarm made me not want to eat for fear of food poisoning

The best Chinese food I've had in the area. We order from here regularly and dine in on occasion. Everything we've ordered has been great and we really like the family that runs the place. The children are really entertaining while you are waiting to pick up your order. The husband and wife are super friendly as well and I've never had bad service. My only complaint is that food on the lunch buffet (we've gone twice) is good but sparse. You have to wait until the buffet is replenished and it isn't quick. I'd highly recommend it for all made to order food though.

Had the lunch buffet (at 1:15) on a Monday. There was only a few items on the buffet table, and what was there needed replaced with new food. Only five people eating in the restaurant and the staff had a difficult time keeping the buffet cart filled and serving customers. Food was ok I won’t be back.

Good service, great food, reasonable prices, convenient parking right around the corner by the train station. I love their mixed vegetables or broccoli with brown sauce. Happy Garden is a long time favorite of mine and I recommend them highly.

Amazing food and great family atmosphere

The food here was delicious! My husband ordered Kung Pao and I ordered Chicken lo mein. Both were piping hot and savory. The customer service was great, too.

You don't go for the decor, you go for the food, which is outstanding. If you like atmosphere, get delivery. I love their fried dumplings, and this is the place that made me crave Singapore noodles.

No online menu but they have all the usual stuff, just call and ask. Food is definitely better than you could hope for in Orange!

Mid-afternoon visit. The food was fresh, hot, colorful and the reason we will be going back. There is an Art Gallery directly across the street. Free parking.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Orange. They cook it fresh constantly for buffet. The food tastes great and full of flavor. Some places it is too salty... Not here! I love it and hard to beat. Its family oriented and everyone always feels welcome!

This is the best Chinese food around. There is not much to the buffet. The food is amazing and the service is great. They are always quick about take out. I just love the food!!!

Slightly deceiving buffet hours. This place has a full menu selection. However, the buffet seemed to be the most popular selection the day I visited. Be aware that they do not offer their Buffet on Saturday, although it is available every other day. (Don't worry, I didn't understand why either!) I would not show up for their Buffet before noon, even though they advertise it starting at 11:30. The day I visited, the full Buffet selection wasn't prepared until nearly noon and the portions set out were rather thin. With only a handful of us dining, things ran out quickly. The service was decent, despite their young children riding bikes inside the restaurant. For that reason, I would not necessarily call it a cozy atmosphere. It's probably best to order ahead and get a takeout order. I will say that the food was quite good.
